About Me

Welcome! I’m so glad that you are here.

I’m Sarah. A mom, wife and Registered Nurse, Psychotherapist.

Life can be chaotic. I am a believer that having a connection in that chaos makes difficult situations a little easier to manage.

I have been a nurse for 8 years, primarily working in Women & Children's Health. My past nursing experience is what motivated me to transition into Nurse Psychotherapy. I noticed a gap in Maternal Mental Health, and was passionate about finding a way to bridge that opening. I am Certified in Perinatal Mental Health and work with Moms in different areas of their motherhood journey such as; Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Mom Rage and the Maternal Mental Load. On a personal note- as a mom of 3 amazing kids, I understand the absolute gratefulness that comes from having children. I also understand how challenging it can be sometimes. I understand the loss of your sense of self, while simultaneously feeling like you are growing into who you are meant to be.

I have added training in Perinatal Grief/Loss and Reproductive Trauma providing compassionate support to those experiencing things that no one should every have to endure such as Infertility, Miscarriages, Infant Loss and Birth Trauma. As a nurse with experience in these areas, I am able to help you understand the medical complexities of these experiences while using psychotherapeutic techniques to work through the emotional/somatic aspects.

I also work alongside men and women reaching out for support with Anxiety, Stress/Burnout or experiencing Grief/Loss in their life. We all have times where we are needing a little extra support and connection.

In addition, I work with Couples who are interested in improving their communication patterns and recognizing their negative conflict cycles. I also help couples navigate infidelity and betrayal in their relationship while working to rebuild trust. I am a Bringing Baby Home Educator through the Gottman Institute and understand that relationship dynamics/needs change after welcoming a baby to the family. I work with couples during this transition to Parenthood and provide skills to maintain a healthy relationship during this amazing, but challenging, time in their lives. As a nurse, I believe in research-based methods and aim to apply these interventions to my therapy techniques.

I also work with Children (6+), who are navigating Grief & Loss (Death, Divorce & Life Changes) in their Life. I incorporate elements of play into sessions and strive to create a safe space while establishing a trusting relationship. My goal is to create an environment that feels warm and secure, empowering them to process their grief and emotions at their own pace.

I take an eclectic/client centred approach to therapy. What works for one client, may not work for you, so we will work to find what does. I believe that a non-judgmental & a safe space to share your story is essential in the healing process. I aim to offer a supportive, integrative & empathetic therapy experience. Modalities I use include; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Narrative Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

My goal is to create a safe space for you to share how you are feeling, understand those feelings, create some compassion and help in developing strategies to cope. I also love some good mom/dark humour. There will be Bluey memes.

If any of this resonates with you, please do not hesitate to reach out. I look forward to connecting with you.

Services Offered

What is a Nurse Psychotherapist?

Under the Regulated Health Professionals Act (RHPA), 6 Colleges, including The College of Nurses (CNO), can perform the act of psychotherapy. In Ontario, all nurses who are registered and in good standing with the CNO can perform the act of psychotherapy. The CNO requires that nurses obtain knowledge, skill and judgment to competently practice psychotherapy.

Is Nurse Psychotherapy covered by insurance benefits?

Many insurance providers do cover nurse psychotherapy services under their extended benefits. I encourage you to reach out to your provider to assess your coverage. Some insurance companies do not yet cover psychotherapy from a nurse- there is a large community of nurses advocating for change in this area! We are always grateful for client advocation as well!

Private psychotherapy is not covered under OHIP. I do not offer direct billing at this time. Once you have paid for your session, I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life is busy. I get it. If you need to cancel an appointment, I ask that you provide 24hrs notice. If cancelled within this time no cancellation fee will apply. Any cancellations without 24hrs notice or missed appointments will incur a fee of 50% of your appointment cost. Thank you for understanding this policy as it ensures commitment to appointments and allows others to fill appointment spots available.

What if I/We cannot afford Counselling?

I never want cost to be a barrier to help. If you are worried about financial strain from counselling, please reach out. I have limited sliding scale appointments available.

How are your services offered?

I offer both virtual and in person appointments.

Virtual appointments are offered to anyone residing in Ontario. If you do not see a time that fits your schedule, please reach out to me directly. I have some flexibility to offer out of schedule appointments virtually.

In person appointments are booked locally in Kingston. I work out of Wellness Within Therapy and Counselling located at 1111 #3 Princesses St (located inside King’s Town Chiropractic.)
